What is a Permanent Resident

What is a Permanent Resident?

A permanent resident is a person who has authorization to enter and live in Canada as a resident but has not been granted Canadian citizenship. The immigration and refugee protection act establishes residency requirements and obligations after the granting of a permanent residency status.

Once you have been legally admitted to Canada as a permanent resident and have met the requirements you are eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship.
